Hey all, trying to figure out how the amtrak student discount actually works nowadays. I keep seeing posts about it but the info is all over the place and half of it seems outdated.
Main things I’m trying to confirm:
• what percentage the discount is
• which routes it applies to (regional vs. long-distance)
• whether it works with round trips
• which IDs they accept for verification
• whether it's only for certain states or nationwide
• if the app is required or if you can do it at the counter
• if there are blackout dates (holidays, summer, etc.)
Also curious if anyone here actually uses it consistently and if it’s worth it or if the Saver fares end up cheaper anyway. I’m mainly traveling Northeast Corridor for school, so any real experience there would help.
