I used to mix this up with punishment all the time. But negative reinforcement doesn’t mean something bad happens — it means something bad stops happening when you do the right thing.
Example:
You put on sunscreen → no sunburn (the bad thing is removed).
You buckle your seatbelt → annoying car beep stops.
Once I got that, psychology lectures actually started making sense.
